Within the procedures of the Egyptian government, led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, to take some necessary steps; to implement the state’s plan to rationalize electricity consumption in the buildings and facilities of the various Egyptian institutions, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports concerned with the Ministry, directed quickly to take the necessary measures towards the implementation of these decisions at the level of youth and sports facilities in all governorates of the Republic, as well as within the Ministry’s general office, and youth and sports directorates and various sports and youth federations and bodies.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has developed a general plan to rationalize electricity consumption in its facilities and various bodies, focusing on three key factors represented in “administrative procedures, executive procedures, and preventive procedures.” The Ministry has begun to implement the administrative procedures by directing the rationalization of the use of electricity, disseminating this at the central level within the Ministry's office, the local level within the youth and sports directorates in all governorates, and all youth and sports establishments, including "youth centres, sports clubs and federations, youth camps and forums", and other institutions and bodies of the Ministry.
While the "executive measures" came - as a second key factor of the plan of the Ministry of Youth and Sports - to rationalize electricity consumption by emphasizing the reduction of lighting in stadiums and the consumption of air-conditioners in halls and gymnasiums immediately after the end of events, and not using high lighting for the rooftops of swimming pools in youth centers and clubs during night periods, and in a manner that It does not detriment security and safety factors, as well as reducing lighting in the headquarters of the youth and sports directorates, and without detriment to public work, and making sure that computers, air conditioners and electrical appliances are turned off when it is not necessary to use them.
At the level of executive procedures for stadiums and gymnasiums, directives were measured towards operating the appropriate energy in stadiums and halls, such as lighting and air conditioning, before the event, with a minimum use of electricity for the implementation of sports events and matches only, while closing them immediately after the end of the event.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is also working on implementing a package of machinery inside its facilities, including: “studying the use of solar energy in lighting stadiums and halls in youth and sports facilities, standardizing the work with energy-saving LED headlights, starting to install the control card for all hotel rooms in all affiliated units to the Ministry.
The third key factor of electricity rationalization comes within the plan of the Ministry of Youth and Sports represented in “preventive measures” through coordination with the Ministry of Electricity in implementing awareness campaigns on the activities of the Ministry, emphasizing the importance of rationalizing electricity consumption and all energy sources, and spreading the concept of rationalizing electricity consumption in the bodies and facilities affiliated to the Ministry, monitoring the electricity consumption of facilities on a monthly basis, and activating modern technological systems in the management of buildings and youth and sports facilities.
