Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, delegated his assistant, Dr. Abdel Awal, to welcome Mayar Sherif, the tennis champion, at Cairo International Airport, after her participation in the Parma Open and winning the championship title.
Dr. Ashraf was keen on communicating with Mayar Sherif on the phone, to congratulate her on her historic achievement as the first Egyptian player to win a title in the WTA tournaments.
The Minister assured that Mayar Sherif is a sports role model, and an example of challenge and determination for many athletes that should be emulated, noting that she will make her own historic career in tennis, and of course this will be added to the record of Egyptian sports achievements.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy wished Mayar success in her sports career, achieving all her ambitions, and recording more achievements and winning in the upcoming tournaments.
Mayar Sherif defeated Maria Sakkari in the final match, becoming the first Egyptian player to win a professional title in the WTA.
