Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, met with Dr. Wajih Azzam, President of the Egyptian and African Cycling Federations, in the Youth and Sports City of Sharm El-Sheikh, to discuss preparations for hosting the UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup, which will be organized during the period from (14-17) March 2023, at the international track in Cairo Stadium.
The meeting also discussed the preparations for hosting the World Junior Championships in March 2024, as well as the participation of the Egyptian Cycling Federation in the Youth Day, corresponding to November 10, as part of the COP27 climate conference, as well as the upcoming preparations for the Egyptian teams through the establishment of several camps during the coming period.
The Minister of Youth and Sports confirmed that the international track at Cairo International Stadium has the capabilities and equipment that conform to technical standards in accordance with international standards, noting that the track represents a qualitative leap in Egypt’s hosting of many track cycling championships after the outstanding organization of the World Junior Track Championship 2021.
Sobhy pointed to the interest of Egypt in hosting major international sports events and tournaments, and organizing them at the highest level which highlights Egypt's capabilities and organizational expertise, and with the full support of the Egyptian political leadership.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy pointed to the keenness of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to provide all the needs and requirements related to hosting the World Cycling Championship for adults 2023, and the World Youth Cycling Championship 2024, stressing the need for optimal preparation for the championship at the technical and organizational levels, for Egypt's continued success in hosting international sports tournaments in various games. .
The meeting was attended by Major General Ismail El-Far, Head of the Youth Sector, and Dr. Essam Serag El-Din, Head of the Economic Unit in the Office of the Minister of Youth and Sports.
