After the tribute paid by the African Union to the leader Gamal Abdel Nasser Fellowship, "the Ministry of Youth and Sports" publishes statistics on the Fellowship

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (African Youth Bureau and Central Administration of the Parliament and Civic Education) publishes statistics on the candidates for the "Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership" launched by the Ministry from 8 to 22 June, 2019 in Cairo.


The ministry announced that the Fellowship had experienced a high registration rate from young people in African countries during the registration days via the electronic form, the number of candidates reached about 1000 young leaders representing 51 African countries, noting that the average age of candidates is 28, of which (782) young leaders aged 21 to 35, 16 young people aged under 21 years and 53 young people aged over 35 years.  It should be noted that (100) of the most competent young leaders have been selected from the candidates for the Fellowship from different African countries.


The Fellowship aims to popularize the authentic Egyptian experience in national institution-building and to create a new generation of young African transformational leaders with a vision that aligns with the Egyptian presidency of the African Union in serving the goals of African unity through integration, training, capacity building, the development of strategic visions, as well as organizing meetings for the most influential young leaders at the continental level.


The Fellowship attracted a lot of interest from local and international media, both official and unofficial, in Arabic and foreign languages, and nearly 90 local media outlets covered informations about the Fellowship in Arabic or foreign languages. In addition, 22 international organizations and many Egyptian institutions have published informations on the Fellowship via their Facebook accounts, namely (the official Facebook page of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Egyptian Embassy in Ethiopia, the African Union, the Egyptian Embassy in Serbia, and the Egyptian Presidency of the African Union).


Many officials praised the Nasser Fellowship, noting that Egypt's ambassador to Ethiopia, Osama Abdel Khalek, praised the Fellowship as one of the key mechanisms for empowering African youth, within the framework of hosting the General Coordinator of the African Youth Bureau "Mr. Hassan Ghazali" on the sidelines of the African Youth Forum - held from 24 to 26 April 2019 in Addis Ababa, under the auspices of the African Union.


During the meeting held between Ghazali and the Chair of the AU Commission for Science, Technology and Human Resources, Prof. Sarah Agbor, in Addis Ababa, she praised the Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership as a platform serving the 1 million by 2021 initiative launched for empowering and developing youth leadership in Africa, by training one million young Africans in the fields of education, employment, entrepreneurship and participation (E's 4) by 2021, which the Fellowship is striving to achieve in the education sector, noting that she has also praised the objectives of the Fellowship that converge with those of the AU’s Agenda 2063.
