Within the framework of the activities of the 8th day

Major General Khaled Tawfik, Chief of Staff of Military, addressed the heroic combat operations of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism with the sons of  "Nasser Fellowship for African leadership" under the slogan "For the love of Africa"


Major-General Khaled Moustafa Tawfik, leader of Popular and Military Defense Forces and commander of the "Karam al-Kwadis" military operation, stressed that Africa has a wealth of resources, and cultures, allowing it to surpass the rest of the world; and he then welcomed the African youth in their second country, Egypt.


This meeting was held within the framework of the activities of the 3rd educational seminar entitled "Heroic combat operations of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism", organized by the armed forces under the slogan "For the love of Africa", for African youth participating in the activities of the" Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership", launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (the African Youth Bureau and Central Administration of the Parliament and Civic Education), under the auspices of Dr. Moustafa Madbouli, President of the Cabinet of Ministers, during the period from 8 to 22 June 2019, in cooperation with the Panafrican Youth Union.


The Major-General said at the meeting that the armed forces were striving to achieve rapprochement between African peoples and to exchange their experiences and cultures, highlighting the challenges and obstacles facing the African continent, including  terrorism, which is not limited to the African continent but extends to the whole world.

He also explained that Egypt had experienced, during the previous period, a number of terrorist incidents that the armed forces had faced and controlled in Egypt and Africa, noting that terrorism in Egypt had reached a dangerous stage considering  terrorist and takfirist elements threatening the security of the country, spreading the terror between citizens, negatively affecting the economy and the wealth of the nation and hindering the process of development.


Major-General Tawfik emphasized the importance of the unity of peoples, continents and countries through minds, arms, and exchange of opinions and experiences in the fight against terrorism and extremism, and discussed terrorist’s means of trainings and preperations to attack the army and the police, as well as the production of explosive devices, the targeting of, soldiers and civilians, and the destruction of buildings.

He discussed the combat operations of the armed forces that destroyed the Takfirist groups' command center, noting that the armed forces had discovered a number of tunnels used by terrorist elements, in addition to controlling various firearms, ammunition, equipment and clothing used by these elements within the framework of heir terrorist operations.


The Major-General also showed the martyrs’s map of the armed forces and the heroes who fought, and explained the progress of the combat operations of the armed forces and the political relations between the army and Africa, mentioning certain military visits to African countries.


For her part, Ms. Dina Fouad, Head of the Parliament's Central Administration and Civic Education, explained that the "Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership", highlighted that the Nasser Leadership Fellowship was organized within the framework of a series of programs and events organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, chaired by Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, noting that the ministry began its activities in Aswan, capital of African youth, including  activities of the Pan Africa Summer School, with the aim of strengthening the role of African youth through providing them with all forms of support, rehabilitation and training, as well as empowering them in leadership positions and benefiting from their abilities and ideas, in implementation of what was endorsed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during the World Youth Forum. 


Ms. Dina also pointed out that the Nasser Fellowship aimed at popularizing the authentic Egyptian experience in national institution-building and to create a new generation of young African transformational leaders with a vision that aligns with the Egyptian presidency of the African Union in serving the goals of African unity through integration, training, capacity building, the development of strategic visions, as well as organizing meetings for the most influential young leaders at the continental level. She also mentioned that the Fellowship was one of the mechanisms implementing the "1 Million by 2021" initiative, with the objective of training one million young Africans by 2021, launched by the AU Commission on Science, Technology and Human Resources. 


The activities ended with the presentation of a number of Egypt's mega-development projects in African countries, with a number of African students from Al-Azhar University participating in the Fellowship activities sharing their influential messages, and by a number of artistic and folkloric performances presented by Gougou Troupe, directed by Ayman Justin, graduate of the first class of Pan Africa Summer School. 


Major-General Tawfik honored the families of the martyrs, including the family of the martyr Montaser Abbas and the family of the martyr Mohammed Sabri Ahmed;  and also honored African students at Al-Azhar University and awarded them Honorary Shields, noting that the armed forces distributed gifts as souvenirs to the participants in the Fellowship.


The activities were attended by Colonel of Genral Staff Ahmed Ramadan, Planning and Popular Defense Service, Lieutenant-Colonel Ahmed Shawki, Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces for Educational Seminars, Major Ahmed Mohammad, Director of the Bureau of the Armed Forces’ Commander, and a number of officials of the armed forces and Ministry of Youth and Sports, including Dr. Hossam Abdel Hakim, Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports for the Pioneer Sector, Ms. Dina Fouad, Chief  of the Central administration of the Parliament and Civic Education, Ms. Nelly Zain El Abidine, Director of General Administration of the Parliament and Pioneers, and Mr. Hassan Ghazali, Vice-President of the Pan African Youth Union,  as well as the families of the armed forces’ martyrs.
