Ashraf Sobhy receives the World Handball champions


Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Hisham Nasr, President of the Egyptian Handball Federation, received the national U19 handball team after they won the title of the World Championship, held in Macedonia from 6th to 18th of August 2019. 


Sobhy expressed his great happiness with this achievement which reflected the progressive development of handball, until it reached the top by winning the title of the world championship in junior category. 


The Minister of Youth and Sports congratulated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Republic and supporter of the youth of Egypt in various sports, stressing that the political leadership, has a strong belief that sports is a national security and one of the most important areas that contributes to the drawing of the culture of society and to the achievement of the comprehensive development, pointing out that the strategy of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which emanates from the Egyptian Human Building Strategy and Egypt’s Vision 2030, emphasizes the ambitious plans of the government headed by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, which aims to prepare generations in various games to be the main pillars of the future national teams, through national projects that discover the talented people in a number of sports both individual and collective.


The Minister of Youth and Sports described the Egyptian handball system as an integrated system, which operates according to a clear strategy that aims to prepare distinctive generations in the game, and depends on the continuous work by expanding the base of competition, and discovering talents to prepare them to be the nucleus of the national teams of different ages. 


Our national team started their matches in the championship by defeating their Swedish rival 32-29. Before losing to France 28-32. Then won over Chinese Taipei 36-25 and over Canada 47-20. In addition to their victory over Hungary 31-24.


Our champions qualified for the quarter-final after beating Slovenia 30-23 in the round of 16, before defeating Iceland 35-31 in the quarter finals, also managed to reach the finals by defeating Portugal 41-36.


Egypt’s junior team won the World Championship After defeating Germany 32-28 in the finals on Sunday.
