The Ministry of Youth and sports begins preparations to host the largest Volunteer Program in Africa


The Ministry of Youth and Sports will host for five days the AU delegation responsible for assessment as part of the preparations carried out for the launch of the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps-AUYVC in December 2019.


The objective of the visit is to inspect the youth facilities of the ministry and to get acquainted with its potential and readiness, as well as with the extent of the possibility of hosting the event. The program is the largest volunteer activity for African youth training on which the AU member states are competing. 


Mr. Kokou Djagadou, member of the AU delegation responsible for assessment, praised the fact that Egypt will host the event for the second time in less than three years is ambitious and commendable, and reflects Egypt's commitment to supporting youth issues.


The tour of inspection included a visit to the Al-Jazeera Youth Center, where the AU delegation was received by Ahmed Afifi, Undersecretary of Youth Cities at Ministry of Youth and Sports, Major General Ahmed Zakaria, Director of the Al-Jazeera Youth Center, and Commander Sherif Mansour, Deputy Director of the Al-Jazeera Youth Center. The delegation concluded the inspection visit at the Olympic Center as one of the facilities candidates for hosting the event.


The delegation expressed admiration for the Egyptian youth facilities and the services provided by the state in ways supportive of youth, as well as the absorptive capacity of the activities that can be provided to African youth, praising the role of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in promoting volunteer work for youth in Africa, building the leadership capacities of African youth and giving them the opportunity to receive training through volunteer programs.
