Under the auspices of the President of the Republic... Egypt hosts the largest volunteer programme in Africa



Under the auspices of President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in partnership with the African Union Commission, is hosting the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps(AU-YVC) 10th Cohort. 200 young men and women from different African countries are being selected to attend a continental training held in Cairo at the Olympic Center in Maadi from 30 November to 12 December 2019. This is within the framework of qualifying youth leaders to do volunteer work for 12 months to within the African Union organs.


The programme is organized within the framework of Egypt's presidency of the African Union with the objective of deepening the role of Egyptian youth as key actors in the development of their mother continent “Africa”, in order to achieve the continent’s desired goals, as well as to enhance youth engagement within the African decision-making institutions. The programme also plays a role to exchange skills and knowledge in order to build a continent of more integration, prosperity and peace at the hands of its youth.


The programme is based on the 

African Agenda 2063 and the African Youth Charter with regard to the issue of youth empowerment as African human resources that the continent seeks to develop.


It should be noted that the AU Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC) is the largest volunteer programme in Africa that was established in 2010;  noting that the Arab Republic of Egypt hosted the 7th edition of the programme through the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2016, which was praised by the African Union Commission for good organization and management.


States participating in the event are namely "Egypt - Algeria - Angola - Benin - Burkina Faso - Burundi - Cameroon Verde - Central African Republic - Chad - Congo - Democratic Republic of the Congo - Ivory Coast - Djibouti - Equatorial Guinea - Ethiopia - Eritrea - Gabon - Ghana  - Guinea - Kenya - Liberia - Madagascar - Malawi - Mali - Mauritius - Mauritania - Morocco - Mozambique - Namibia - Niger - Nigeria - Rwanda - Senegal - Seychelles - Sierra Leone - Somalia - South Africa - South Sudan - Sudan - Tanzania - Togo - Tunisia  "Uganda - Zambia - Zimbabwe - Botswana - Comoros - Eswatini - Gambia - Lesotho - São Tomé.
