Mayar Sherif, Egyptian tennis player, has made history and qualified for the Roland Garros main draw, to become the first Egyptian woman to reach the main draw of one of the largest international tennis tournaments in an unprecedented sporting achievement in the Egyptian sports.
The Egyptian player qualified for the main draw after defeating the Italian Giulia Gatto-Monticone 2-0 in the preliminary round final Friday.
Mayar won over the American Katie Mcnally 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-final, and beaten Colombia's Maria Camila Osorio 6-4, 6-0 in the quarter-finals.
Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, praised Mayar's victory, and wished her an outstanding performance in the various international tournaments that she participates in.
