Youth Minister congratulates Mayar Sherif on her unique performance in Roland Garros

Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports congratulated Mayar Sherif, the Egyptian tennis player, on her unique performance, which she gave during the match with the tournament No.2 Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic.


Mayar Sherif achieved a historic achievement and became the first player to reach the main role of the Roland Garros tennis tournament, one of the Grand Slam tournaments. She additionally became the first Egyptian to qualify for competing at the Olympic games in Tokyo after winning a gold medal in the 2019 African games.


Youth and sports Minister was keen to support Mayar Sherif, the Egyptian champion, who gives a remarkable performance in the various tournaments she participates in. He also praised her performance in Roland Garros in France which reflects the development of tennis game in Egypt.


The Minister affirmed his support for the player to be prepared for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021, to continue her marvellous performance, and to compete in the various matches she participates in.


The match between Egyptian player Mayar Sherif and Czech player Karolina Pliskova was held at the " Philippe Chatrier" stadium, the historic stadium of the Roland Garros championship, and the match ended with two groups for the world No.4, who ranked second in the tournament, Karolina Pliskova to one group for the Egyptian champion.
