Sports Minister discusses with Basketball Federation the preparations of hosting FIBA Club World Cup

Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy met the President of the Egyptian Basketball Federation Magdy Abou Farikha, at Dr Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall, 6th of October, to discuss Egypt’s preparations for hosting the FIBA Basketball Club World Cup that will be held in February of 2022.


The Minister of Youth and Sports affirmed that he follows-up step by step with the Egyptian Basketball Federation regarding organizing the tournament at the highest level, noting that Egypt is ready to host tournaments, thanks to the capabilities and elements that characterize Egypt, and the construction boom and achievements the country is witnessing under The leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, who provides all support to Egyptian sports, which has obtained many achievements during the current period.


The International Federation clarified that it was decided that Zamalek, the African champion and crowned with the African title BAL, representing the continent of Africa, will participate in the tournament. The competition will be held with the participation of Zamalek club, Spanish Burgos, European representative, Brazilian Flamengo, South American representative, and American Lakeland Magic, North American representative.


The meeting also dealt with the preparations for Egypt's hosting of the African Club Championship in April 2022. The meeting also discussed the developments of the talent project and the Olympic champion in basketball.


The meeting was attended by Mohamed Abdel Muttalib, Vice President of the Egyptian Basketball Federation, and Dr. Abdel Awal Mohamed, Assistant Minister for Championship Affairs.
