Sports Minister congratulates Fencing team for winning Junior African Fencing Championships

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, congratulated the Egyptian men’s and women’s fencing team after they won 4 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals in the individual competitions, and achieved the gold for men’s fencing, the gold for women’s fencing, and the bronze for the women’s fencing, during the African Championship competitions that are held in the indoor hall of Mohammed Sports Complex in the Moroccan city of Casablanca, from 15 to 19 June.


The Minister of Youth and Sports praised the successive achievements of Egypt’s champions in fenciy sports at the level of the various international tournaments in which they participate, and present a distinguished performance in them, winning their various titles, and the strong preparations they are subject to according to the plan of the Egyptian Fencing Federation.


The minister noted the support provided by the ministry to all sports federations to implement their programs and prepare players for various competitions, in light of the ministry's policy towards the sustainability of the achievements witnessed by Egyptian sport during the current time.


The Egyptian team for men's fencing team succeeded in defeating Algeria in the final match with a score of 45/20 to win the African title and achieve the gold medal, after qualifying to the final match after defeating Côte d'Ivoire with a score of 45/11 in the semi-final match. Egypt's men's fencing list includes: "Alaa Abu Al-Qasim, Muhammad Hassan, Muhammad Essam and Ahmed Al-Sukary."


The Egyptian women’s fencing team also won the African Fencing Championship, also held in Morocco, and the gold medal, after defeating Morocco in the final round match with a score of 45-30. The Egyptian team won the semi-final against Algeria with a score of 45-35. The women's fencing won the bronze medal, and the list of Egypt's women's sword fencing team includes: Nardin Ihab, Sherwit Jaber, Aya Sharif and Menna Allah Hani.


Yesterday, the individual competitions of the African Fencing Championship for men and women ended with the Egyptian team leading the standings with a total of 15 medals, as the Egyptian team managed to get 5 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals, in addition to the gold for men's fencing, the gold for women's epee, and the bronze for women's fencing.



The gold medals were won by: Nora Mounir in fencing for women, Muhammad Al-Sayed in epee for men, Nardin Ihab in epee for women and Alaa Abu Al-Qasim in the fencing weapon for men.


While Ahmed al-Sukari, an epee player, Sherwit Jaber, an epee player, Medhat Moataz, a sabre player, Nada Hafez, a sabre player, and Mohammed Hamza, a fencing player, won the silver medal. 


The bronze medals were also won by the following players, Noha Hani and Yara Al-Sharqawi in the fencing competition, Muhammad Amer in the sabre competition, Aya Sharif in the epee, Maryam Al-Deghaidi in sabre and Muhammad Hassan in fencing.


Egypt participates in the team competitions with three different weapons: the women's sabre, the fencing for men, and the epee for men.


Tomorrow the tournament will conclude with fencing competitions for women, sabre for men, and epee for men.
